Simulation (SIM)

Our Emergency Medicine Simulation faculty and fellows work to develop, implement, and evaluate simulation‐based educational programs for faculty, residents, medical students, nurses, and pre-hospital providers while utilizing simulation modalities such as high‐fidelity mannequins, task-trainers, and standardized patients. Our faculty and fellows are committed to using these innovative technologies to improve medical education, patient safety, and communication, ultimately producing well-rounded EM doctors.

Simulation at county

Our residents participate in simulation cases during our weekly EM conferences, focusing on diagnostic skills and resuscitation. In addition to conference sessions, procedure courses and adult and pediatric resuscitation courses are held throughout the academic year to strengthen residents’ procedural skills and maintain their BLS/ACLS/PALS certifications.

The Cook County Simulation Training Center is an integrated simulation center that utilizes a wide variety of simulation modalities including procedural skills task trainers, high-fidelity mannequins, and standardized patients.

Other simulation experiences include SIM Wars - a team-based, bracket competition where team scores are based on medical knowledge, team work, procedural skills, and team spirit - and SIMTASTIC, an annual event held among the emergency medicine residencies in the Chicago area, where PGY2 EM residents join another institutions for a fresh- and fair-minded simulation assessment by the institution's simulation faculty.
